Will Anderson Fall like Chuck?

Posted: June 17, 2012 in Marketing, PR, UFC

With a record of 31-4 Anderson “The Spider” Silva is a bad, bad man. In fact, he holds the longest win streak and longest title defense record for the UFC.  Not a man to be taken lightly.

That said, I’m beginning to get a feeling of déjà vu. Another dominant force once ruled the UFC, a man now ruling a corner office – Chuck Liddell.  At the end of his career Chuck was on the cover of ESPN the magazine, guest starring on entourage and falling asleep on local TV spots because he was out partying the night away.  Some say he took his eyes off the prize and lost the title to Rampage Jackson because of it.  Now, here I stand seeing Anderson Silva putting himself in ad after ad, and wondering if he too is starting to lose that “eye of the tiger” – will he lose because he is stretching himself thing outside of the cage?

What do you think? Is he following the same path or am I simply being overly paranoid?

Anderson is the boss, in and outside of the Octagon :).

I feel like he has always been a marketing man like great UFC fighters are but because he has been so distant from the US marketing we just haven’t seen it. He is no dummy, I’m sure he has been a spokesperson/posterboy for many Brazilian companies over the years. I honestlt don’t get why he choses to be so distant to the US in this regard as I’m sure the UFC would rather have had him as their UFC poster boy and in hindight never would have had DUI issues with the G.O.A.T. p4p fighter.

Somehow I think Segal is to blame. “I would like to thank Sensei Segal who told me to avoid America like a small child avoided Michael Jackson’s house on Halloween.”

    • I think it is as silly a thing as his English. If they are not comfortable with him delivering the lines, they probably aren’t showing him the U.S. opportunities.

Great point that this is likely something he has been doing all along and we haven’t seen it. That would make him that much scarier looking back at his history…
