Mobile Monday

Yup, it was bound to happen eventually: a mobile application post.

There is no doubt in any marketer’s mind that the mobile space is the new frontier for sales and customer interaction.  And, not in the traditional way.  (Don’t worry, this isn’t a call for more telemarketers.)  With everyone now glued to their iPhone/BlackBerry/Droid, applications are springing up from every type of media and organization.

This of course brings us to the world of MMA applications.  There seem to be quite a few of them out there now from fighters and organizations alike.  I’m a fan of “MMA News” for the Droid platform. This is a free app and it offers me news from 16 different sources.  At the click of my phone I have access to:

  • Bloody Elbow
  • MMA Madhouse
  • 5 Ounces of Pain
  • Bleacher Report
  • MMA Valor
  • MMA FightScoop
  • Yahoo! MMA
  • SportingNews

Back during the UFC 121 marketing bonanza I did notice that the UFC is placing stronger emphasis on its mobile platform.  The UFC mobile offering includes:

  • Event calendar including full fight cards, reminder alerts, and live weigh-ins
  • Fighter profiles with stats, bios, fight history, twitter feeds and photo galleries.
  • Up-to-the-minute news directly from the UFC.
  • Videos for upcoming fights and interviews with fighters
  • Photo shoots starring the Octagon Girls.

This is of course, not a free app.  This iTunes specific feature is .99 for fans that are interested.  Me personally, I like my free Droid app and recommend it to those looking for news on-the-go.
