Welcome to Press Release Corner

Posted: October 5, 2010 in Bellator, Marketing, PR, Strikeforce, UFC

I’ve looked at press releases before, but luckily recently the MMA community has been releasing news worth reading about.   As a PR guy, I know it can be tough to get some of these things noticed so here are some release updates from around the industry:

STRIKEFORCE:

  • STRIKEFORCE fighters will exhibit their heart and character outside of the cage when they fight for a worthy cause – underprivileged children — in the first-ever STRIKEFORCE Charity Golf Tournament. All proceeds for the one-day STRIKEFORCE Charity Golf Tournament go to Turning Wheels For Kids, a charity organization that provides bicycles for underprivileged kids.
  • Following the rumors, the promotion has finally announced “STRIKEFORCE; Henderson vs. Babalu” as their next Showtime event following Diaz v Noons II.  The card will also include Paul Daley v Scott Smith and Hershel Walker will take on an unnamed challenge (I’m guessing a fish to keep in line with their usual matchmaking…)

UFC

  • The UFC returns to movie theaters with UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez featuring this championship heavyweight battle in more than 300 select movie theaters nationwide on Saturday, October 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.
  • October has been renamed“Brocktober,” as Spike TV will be airing a slew of special Brock Lesnar-related features and encore presentations of his past fights leading up to the live PPV bout on Saturday, October 23. Programs will include PRIMETIME, UFC 116 re-air, UFC Unleashed, and UFC 121 Countdown.

General MMA

  • Finalists for the 2010 World MMA Awards have been announced. The shortlists below can now be voted on from now until November 26th, at which point voting will be closed and the overall winners will be determined. A black-tie awards ceremony will be held in Las Vegas on December 1st at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
